If multiple campuses
are needed for the new regional school, will we have different grade levels at
the different campuses? This would be extremely difficult for many of us to have
children going to different campuses.
As
educators and administrators we strongly believe in our K-8 school model. If
more than one school site is needed, then both will enroll students K-8 or at
least 1-8 if an incoming kindergarten would ever be too small.

What is the time line
for the new Regional School?
As was presented to each of the four parish Education, Finance and Pastoral
Councils, the Steering Committee envisions the new Regional School to be in
place for the school year 2008 – 2009. The committee is meeting monthly to work
out the details. An update session will be held in mid-September for interested
families. The date for the open session will be announced after the August 7
Steering Committee meeting.
Questions continue to come in concerning a local newspaper report about a
“neutral” site for the new Regional School.
As we reported in the June C.A.R.E. News, the report in the local paper was
in error and has been retracted. We will not be building a new school, but
rather using buildings that already exist. We would like to add that the
Steering Committee never considered such an option. The local paper report was
based on a comment made by an Archdiocesan official not involved in this
planning process.
How will the campuses by divided, by grade or location? What are the deciding
factors used to determine what locations will be used? Will there be bus
service?
The Facilities Ad Hoc Committee presented a preliminary analysis of the four
parish school buildings. The Steering Committee is reviewing that report and
will deliberate on the recommendations of the ad hoc committee at its August 7
meeting. The basic decision will be based on what will be the best facilities to
provide the best service for our children’s education. No decision has been made
as yet about how the campuses will be divided. We assume that there will be bus
service no matter what campuses are determined. Again, those details have to be
worked out.
Is there concern that final decisions are not being made until the end of
2007 and the new Regional School is to be up and running by Fall, 2008?
Yes, we understand the concern. We are working on the details and are
confident that pending Archdiocesan approval, we will be ready to start the new
Regional School for the school year 2008 –2009.

Is it true that our
four parishes will be forming one regional school?
Yes. As was reported in last month’s C.A.R.E. News, the proposal to proceed with
this effort was presented to and approved by the councils and commissions in all
four parishes. Most importantly, we still need to make an official proposal to
the area commission on education. Their recommendation is sent to the Archbishop
for his approval.
Once we obtain
Archbishop Pilarczyk’s approval, when will this new regional school come into
existence?
We are currently working to have our proposal submitted by November, 2007.
Where will this new
school be located? I read something in the local newspaper about a “neutral”
site.
The report in the local paper was
in error and has been retracted. We will not be building a new school, but
rather using buildings that already exist.
Will this new school
have a new name?
Most definitely - our new school will indeed have a new name.
Will the governance
structure be the same as what Fr. Atcher mentioned was implemented in the
archdiocese of Louisville?
We don’t know at this time. During
our meeting with the deputy superintendent, Ann Battes, in May, it was noted
that there are several options in use in our Archdiocese. We are reviewing
information concerning these models of governance.
